Who We Are
A growing network of organizations, individuals, and businesses advocating for environmentally responsible growth in the City of Chesapeake and the Hampton Roads region. Our vision is to create a "green" city that provides a high quality of life for everyone who lives, learns, works, farms, and plays in our city. This includes sustaining a healthy and livable environment with clean air, clean water, ecologically vibrant green spaces, and climate resiliency for all.
What We Are Interested In:
- tree preservation and expanding urban tree canopy
- expanding natural areas and areas of conservation
- improving pedestrian and bicycle safety, connectivity, and public transit opportunities
- creating affordable housing development within a healthy and livable environment
- promoting sustainability efforts while retaining the rural character of southern Chesapeake
- promoting clean energy to address climate change
- developing a data center policy that protects local communities
- environment friendly building design and lighting standards
- reducing waste, especially for single-use plastics
How We Work
The Network is non-partisan and builds consensus based on policy-based deliberations. As a Network of separate organizations, individuals, and businesses with unique priorities, the Network does not take positions on individual Zoning Change and Conditional Use Applications. Rather the Network seeks to develop strong standards for environmentally responsible development, share policy background and information among its members, facilitate collaboration, and promote advocacy for sustainable policies for the City of Chesapeake and Hampton Roads.
